IMAGE COPYRIGHT National Oceanography Centre What do whales eat? Discovery Ocean Biology
Did you know that the Discovery Investigations (1925-1927) provided the evidence that several whale species were nearing extinction, thereby becoming the spark for some of the world's first marine conservation efforts?
Come meet with the Curators of the Discovery Collections and the National Oceanographic Library who co-created the 100 Years of RRS Discovery exhibition. They will tell you stories of the Discovery Investigations expeditions, the remarkable scientists and crew who were selected for the original voyage, the scientific work that they did and why, as well as show you some of the biological samples they collected, explaining why these are still important to scientists today.
This is a unique opportunity to engage with scientists and staff from both the National Oceanography Centre and the National Oceanographic Library who will be at SOTSEF to engage with you, answer questions about their research, and provide insight into the fascinating history this special exhibition brings to life.
