IMAGE COPYRIGHT Mars Bar Bridge Building Challenge
Civil engineers use a range of materials and shapes of structure to create the buildings and infrastructure around us. New materials and smart structural concepts are being engineered to reduce our energy and material use, and help old infrastructure last for longer. This is an important contribution to creating a sustainable built environment and mitigating climate change.
Your raw materials will be limited to paper and tape, and the load you need to carry is Mars bars. Use your imagination to dream up an efficient structure, taking inspiration from the way civil engineers shape and combine structural elements in real bridges and buildings.
Where will you end up on the leaderboard? Will your structure be a Tay Bridge failure or a Tower Bridge triumph?
