Maths in the real world
Join members of the Maths Outreach team to solve some interesting transport and logistics problems. Mathematics is fundamental to many processes that we follow in the real world and, in particular, how we can optimise systems to work effectively and efficiently. In this activity, you will get the chance to solve problems like routing your vehicles around a set of destinations, finding the optimal location for a depot or making ordering and pricing decisions. There will be activities available for all ages. Much of this work is described as Operational Research, a branch of mathematical sciences that uses analytical methods to make better decisions and optimise systems.
